The OnePlus One was a total success among technology enthusiasts. It was dubbed the “flagship killer” by many of us, due to its amazing affordability and powerful specs that would put any high-end smartphone to shame. This is why the industry is keeping its eyes open to see when its successor will show up.
The OnePlus Two has been subject to many leaks, rumors and speculation. We all want to know what the new OnePlus smartphone is all about. Will it be another “flagship killer”? We don’t know the details to say that just yet, but we have just caught a bit of information from retailer GeekBuying, which is giving us a look at a possible launch date.
You remember GeekBuying, right? They stood in the spotlight late last year, when theyput the OnePlus Two up for pre-order ahead of everyone else. Back then they stated the highly anticipated smartphone would be shipping come February 10th, a date that was later changed to March 10th.
Those dates have come and gone with no success, but GeekBuying is now giving us another lead time – April 17th. As you can see, the retailer is no longer following that month-per-month pattern. This time they have completely changed the date to the 17th, which makes us wonder if GeekBuying knows something the rest of the industry doesn’t. After all, the company seems to work very closely with the Asian market.
Now, we would not advice that you put all your hopes on what GeekBuying is telling us. After all, their page still seems like a place-holder of sorts. For starters, they have a single image that is pretty much a OnePlus One with a larger screen-to-bezel ratio. In addition, the image advertises Cyanogen, which we know OnePlus is moving away from.
The specs also seem a bit iffy, as this site states the OnePlus Two will have a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, Color OS (another contradiction), 16MP/5MP cameras and Android 4.4. This hardware seems a bit outdated for a “flagship killer”, but it could be the company’s way to keep the phone affordable.
Regardless, other rumored specs contradict this retailer. We have also heard the new OnePlus Two will come with a Snapdragon 810 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch 2K display Android 5.0 and a 3300 mAh battery. Some rumors say it may even come with a smaller screen!
It’s really all just vapor for now. Rumors and leaks are too polarized to really make any educated guesses. This is why the real news here is the April 17th launch date. The most official word on a launch date states the phone will come sometime in Q2 or Q3. This information comes directly from OnePlus’ Global Director, but a later rumor suggested the launch window would lean more towards Q3 (due to manufacturing delays).
It’s a mess, right? I am keeping my hopes up for a possible April launch. After all, the original OnePlus One was launched in April 25th, 2014. Don’t you think an April 17th release date would make sense?
